Frequently Asked Questions
What is Spartan Race?
Simply put, Spartan Race is the world's leading obstacle race series. It's an event of pure primitive craziness that you'll never forget.
Spartan Race has:
Races all over the globe.
Different distance events for different levels and styles of racing.
A unique culture and community of athletes working together to overcome any, and every, obstacle.
Spartan Race Types
Spartan Sprint: 5K/20 Obstacles. The Sprint may be our shortest distance race, but it’s still a favorite amongst both new and returning racers. It’s the perfect distance for those looking to start their Spartan journey. The Sprint also allows returning racers a manageable distance to see how far they can push themselves. Delivering 20 obstacles over 5K, you’ll never run the same race twice. Once you complete the sprint you are 1/3 on your Spartan TRIFECTA: The ultimate Spartan achievement.
Spartan Super: 10K/25 Obstacles. There’s nothing mediocre about this middle distance race. The Spartan Super offers the ideal blend between distance and speed. Offering racers a true athletic test. If you consider yourself a more seasoned athlete determined to push beyond excuses, you just might have the mettle for a Spartan Super. Serving up 25 obstacles and 10K of rugged terrain, the Spartan Super spares no one. Developed as the second race in the Spartan Trifecta, the Super is where you prove to yourself you’ve got everything it takes to face the Beast.
Spartan Beast: Half-Marathon/30 Obstacles. If you’re looking to unleash your inner beast and go to places you never imagined, the Spartan Beast is perfect for you. With a half marathon and 30 obstacles between you and the finish line, the Spartan Beast will test everything you’re made of: your strength, your endurance, your resolve. The unpredictable terrain and Spartan Obstacles are masterfully designed to push you deep into your discomfort zone, and well past those self-imposed obstacles you once considered your limits. Beast mode: on.
Kids: Our mission is to inspire children to develop a love for fitness at an early age. We provide safe, age appropriate obstacle course race venues to build participant confidence, while enjoying a thrilling outdoor activity. We encourage kids to jump, run, get muddy, help each other and have a good time, while conquering obstacles that mimic the adult race.
Spartan Trail: 10km Night Spartan Trail is a no-obstacles foot race through rugged wilderness, overseen by legendary race directors from the world of trail running.
Ultra: 50K | 60 Obstacles. The Ultra is the first race of its kind to bring the best of OCR and ultra-endurance sports together. If you’re a traditional ultra-endurance sports fan, you will love the Ultra.
Hurricane Heat: 4HR. The Spartan Hurricane Heat is a unique individual and team-building experience designed to test each athlete's physical and mental toughness.
What is the Spartan Trifecta?
The Spartan Trifecta is a badge of honor, earned by pushing your mind, body, and spirit to achieve greatness. To become a member of the Trifecta Tribe, one must complete one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super, and Beast or Ultra. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single trifecta year, however only one lap per day, per event will count.
The 2024 Trifecta calendar year will run from January 1st 2024 to December 31st 2024.
What kind of obstacles will I see at a Spartan Race?
Here are a few of things you might see at a Spartan race.
Rope climbs, A frame, sandbag carry, barbed wire crawl, 6 & 8Ft walls, fire, mud, water, and lots, lots more.

From there you can view the team roster.

Are there water and aid stations on course?
We have water stations on every course. During a 5k Sprint we may only have one water station halfway through. During a longer race, like a Super or a Beast, we will provide multiple water stations.
First aid is provided at the Medical tent by the Festival area.
We do not provide food or gels, so please plan to bring your own. Racers are encouraged to bring hydration packs or water bottles to address their personal needs throughout the course. This is mandatory for the Ultra racers, and highly recommended for the Beast racers.
If in doubt, just bring it.
Do I need a hydration pack?
A hydration pack or belt with a minimum capacity of 1L (1000ml) is mandatory for all racers doing the Ultra and is highly recommended for Beast racers.
Water stations are available on the course but it can be several kilometres between water stations. For your own safety, you can't rely on these as your only source of water. A Camelbak-style hydration pack is best as it leaves your hands free, and hydration belts are also a good alternative.
For the shorter race distances (5k Sprint and 10k Super), a hydration pack is still strongly recommended, especially in warm weather.
Where can I find medical help at the race?
We have trained medical personnel on site at every event. If you are injured, have a medical emergency, or see someone in trouble, please approach a member of staff, a course official in a bright yellow shirt, or volunteer in a red shirt to radio the medical team for immediate assistance.
What about the weather on race day?
Generally speaking, we race rain or shine, heat or snow. In order for us to cancel or postpone a race, we must be experiencing a severe act of God such as a hurricane, forest fire, flood, blizzard, etc.
So, if you get up and it is pouring rain, we are racing.
If it is snowing, we are racing.
If it is hot, we are racing.
If it is cold, we are racing.
Please plan to dress accordingly and use your judgement regarding your personal limitations.
IF for some reason we must cancel an event due to uncontrollable weather conditions such as extreme heat or thunderstorms that may pose health risks, all registered racers will be notified by email and announcements will be made on the Spartan website and through our social networking channels.
Are there showers?
Where possible, cold rinse stations are offered at our events, depending on availability of facilities. We strongly recommend bringing a towel and a fresh set of clothes, socks and shoes to change into. In the interest of keeping plastic waste to a minimum, please use your plastic bag from bag check to store your dirty gear for the ride home.
Is there a bag drop?
Yes. It is included with your ticket purchase.
Everything you want to leave at Bag Drop must fit inside this bag. No other bags will be accepted. Please leave your valuables at home or safely stowed in your car.
Can I bring spectators?
Spectators can come watch the race for free! Spectator entry is free.
For safety and insurance reasons, spectators aren't allowed onto or around the course. Only staff and other authorised personnel are permitted onto the course, but spectators will still be able to watch the action from within the Festival area.
Is there parking?
Yes, there is limited parking at the venue. We strongly recommend car pooling with your friends or family to decrease the number of vehicles.
Can I bring a pet?
Pets are not permitted at our events so please leave them at home or with a friend/family member who can watch them while you are away.
Only registered service/assistance dogs (not emotional support animals) are allowed into the event.
NEVER LEAVE ANY ANIMALS UNATTENDED IN YOUR VEHICLE FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME.

Once logged in, locate your event under Your Orders and click on Print Receipt.
I want to race in a heat that is closed or sold out
For safety reasons we can only allow so many racers on a course in any given wave and in a day; if we're at capacity, we will not be able to squeeze in your friend, teammate or spouse, no matter how much we'd like to.
To prevent this, we encourage you to sign up yourself and your team as early as possible. Where possible we may offer registrations on the day of the race but this is still subject to availability.

What is the Kids Race?
The Spartan Kids Race is fun and safe obstacle course experience for children aged 4-14. Young kids will gain confidence while having a ball running, jumping, climbing, and crawling.
Distance of approximately 2km
Suitable for children aged 4 to 14 (based on their age on the day of the race).
Parents are allowed to run alongside the course for the OPEN waves only, however adults are not permitted on the kids' obstacles.
Most of the course will be visible from the Start/Finish area (due to venue limitations some will have more visibility than others)
Average finish time is 20 to 35 minutes, however, this will vary depending on the venue/course and the child’s ability.
We suggest planning to arrive 30-60 minutes prior to your child's start time.
Each registration is valid for 1 race. If your child would like to run another lap, this can be purchased from Registrations on the day. Your child will receive a second medal and finisher shirt upon completion.
Your child’s start time is shown on your registration confirmation email, which will automatically be re-sent 48 hours before the race.
Children under 14 must never be left unattended under any circumstances.
What does my race entry include?
Your Spartan Kids registration includes:
Spartan Kids Medal
Spartan Kids T-shirt
Spartan Kids headband
An awesome experience out on our world-class course
A huge sense of PRIDE, ACCOMPLISHMENT, and BRAGGING RIGHTS.
Spartan Kids medals are earned, not given. While it’s all about fun, they’ll also gain grit and mental toughness too. This is a family event - relatives and friends welcome!
Kids Start Times
During registration, you will be prompted to select your preferred wave time for the kids race. This is shown on the confirmation email that is automatically sent after the purchase of your tickets.
What Kids Race obstacles can my child expect?
Junior Spartans can expect to climb, crawl, traverse, and spear throw their way through our half mile course.
Many children can run the course but may not be physically ready to complete the heavy carries or higher obstacles included in the Kids Race. Obstacle completion is not required, but all competitors must attempt obstacles - Spartans are never afraid to try!
If a racer cannot complete an obstacle they will complete burpees before continuing. The amount of burpees the racer must do is based on their age. For example, if the racer is five years old he/she will complete five burpees followed a failed obstacle attempt.
Can I run with my child?
Parents of children racing in the Open waves are allowed to run alongside and assist their child with any obstacles where necessary. Please note that adults are not permitted onto the kids’ obstacles.
We encourage children over the age of 7 to attempt the course solo. This helps to build confidence and resilience.
Can my child participate in the Kids Race while I participate in the adult race?
No. Children must never be left unsupervised at any time, under any circumstances.
If any Spartan staff discover that a junior racer was intentionally left unsupervised, you will be removed from course and disqualified without course re-entry or refund. Spartan does not provide babysitting or child-minding services so if you are racing at the same time as your child, please bring a family member or friend to supervise your child. Spectator entry is free.
What happens if I miss my wave time?
If you’ve arrived late for any reason and miss your allocated start time, or your child’s start time, speak to a member of staff at Registrations about racing in the next available wave. You may need to show a digital copy of your confirmation (please do not print anything out for race day).
For safety purposes please do not join the next wave without speaking to Registrations staff first. Wave caps are enforced for everyone’s safety, to ensure that we do not have too many racers on the course at any one time.
Kids Race
Race Day
What should I wear on race day?
While you can wear almost anything, we have a few helpful suggestions:
Closed toe shoes or Trail running shoes and lightweight apparel that drains well; remember, it's likely you will be soaking wet and/or muddy.
Prohibited items include:
Alcohol
Weapons
Drones
Shade tents or popup gazebos
Any pets, with the exception of registered service animals
Spartan staff reserve the right to perform visual inspection of bags with the presence of the owner.
When should I arrive and what should I do when I get there?
We suggest arriving around 60 minutes prior to your scheduled start time. This way, any traffic issues or other unforeseen circumstances will only be a pleasant obstacle on the way to much more difficult ones.
For adults over 18, please bring your current valid photo ID. Contactless payment is accepted at most events but it is always good to have cash on hand.
We recommend well-worn shoes and lightweight, moisture-wicking apparel. A hydration pack such as a Camelbak is mandatory for Ultra racers, and is highly recommended for the Beast racers. Please re-use your plastic bag from bag check for your muddy clothes post-race. We sell gear onsite, so you can wear great Spartan gear while you walk around the festival sporting your finisher medal.
Once you arrive on site:
Proceed to the Registration lanes with your photo ID.
One of our staff or our awesome volunteers will assign your bib number and give you your racer pack containing your headband, wrist bands and timing chip.
Put on your headband and secure your timing chip to your wrist.
If you choose, drop your gear at the Bag Check tent for safe-keeping while you're on course.
Head to the Start line to warm up.
Have a great race! Remember to pick up your finisher shirt and medal and enjoy a post-race beverage and snack.
Is there a time limit for each event?
Open wave races do not have a time limit. Sign up, show up, don't give up! AROO!
Longer races may have cut off times for safety concerns. If this is the case, all registered racers will be notified by email. Please remember to check your spam or with any friends who are doing the same race, as you are responsible for knowing those times.
Can I skip an obstacle? Is there a penalty?
Spartans don't skip obstacles, we overcome them.
We strongly discourage skipping obstacles without attempting them, as it is unfair to others that do attempt them. Plus, aren't the obstacles the point of doing an obstacle course race?
However, if you attempt an obstacle that you simply cannot overcome you will be required to complete a penalty. Competitive racers MUST complete the penalty or will be disqualified.
Open wave racers that are unable to complete a "pass/fail" obstacle will be required to complete a penalty of 30 burpees.
For more information on penalties and the definition of "pass/fail" obstacles please take a look at the official Spartan rule book.
What if there is a water obstacle and I can't swim?
Some of our events will have water obstacles. Most of them will be in water shallow enough to walk through without swimming. If there are water obstacles that require swimming, talk to the Spartan Official manning that obstacle for your options: completing it with a life vest, or skipping the obstacle and performing a set of penalty burpees.
Where can I find my results and photos?
Race results and photos are usually uploaded 2-3 days after the event’s conclusion.
You can view the official race results on our website HERE.
